Inauguration of the new branch office of the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Dar es Salaam

The Delegation of German Industry and Commerce inaugurated its branch office in Tanzania on 16th April 2018. The office is located on Chole Road / Slipway Road, Masaki, Dar es Salaam.

The branch office is established to serve as a one stop shop both for German and Tanzanian businesses and through its services assist in further growing the bilateral business relations. The office is jointly supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Industry and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. (through its ExperTS program)

The opening took place on the occasion of a visit of a high level delegation from Germany, led by Dr. Martin Wansleben, the CEO of the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK), Andreas Mattfeldt, Member of the German Federal Parliament and Ms Tanja Gönner, CEO of GIZ.

The Chief Guest at the opening was H.E. Charles John Mwijage, Minister for Industries, Trade and Investment of the United Republic of Tanzania. The Minister encouraged German Investors to enter Tanzania to improve the economic growth and infrastructure projects

Dr. Martin Wansleben, the CEO of the Association of German Chambers of Commerce in his speech emphasized that “the African continent, particularly the Eastern African region, holds huge opportunities for the global economy and German business. We see a growing interest of German companies to contribute to the Eastern African growth story. It is through cooperation in a partnership of equals, that challenges turn into opportunities! This is what German business is about!”. He also pointed out that this inauguration was an important step for the worldwide network of German Chambers of Commerce Abroad, the AHKs, with now 140 offices in 92 countries.

His remarks were echoed by Dr. Jennifer Schwarz, the head of the new branch office, who pointed out that being on site now, the office will be able to more actively facilitate investment and trade cooperation between the two countries than was possible before from the regional main office in Kenya alone.

At a reception hosted by the German Ambassador to Tanzania, Dr. Detlef Wächter, at his residence following the inauguration ceremony he welcomed the opening of the branch office, and thanked the German Chamber network for this step, adding that German business with its strong industrial competence is a natural partner for African economies, and Tanzania in particular.
