Workshop within the German Embassy Green Economy Cycle (GEGEC)

On January 30th, 2018, The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Nairobi, Kenya, together with its partners, held the “Workshop on Small-Scale Ticket Financing for Environmental Technologies- Alternative Financing Methods, Risk Management and Cash-Flow Modelling”.

Financial support for climate technology applications is granted to a few Kenyan banks from international development finance institutions. However, the perspective on small-scale ticket financing is rather limited. Oftentimes, banks incur challenges of finding a good set of projects to leverage their finance provision up to an industrial scale and find it difficult to assess risk and benefit of a project.

The workshop presented various financing options available to Kenyan companies while including the financial sector perspective to close the gap between potential financiers and private projects to be financed. A special focus was put on contracting: Contracting is a service for companies in which a servicing company plans, builds and maintains a climate technology adaption measure and realizes returns through the savings incurred on industrial scale.

This workshop marks the sixth event of 2017’s “German Embassy Green Economy Cycle (GEGEC)”, a series of events in cooperation with the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Kenya. The series brings together experts from private sector, industry practitioners and academia to develop a perspective on more sustainable economic practices.
