Exposure Trip to Germany for Startups, Small and Growing Businesses

The Delegation of German Industry and Commerce (AHK Kenya), in cooperation with the Tech Entrepreneurship Initiative “Make-IT in Africa“ (GIZ), invite Kenyan founders and entrepreneurs of Small and Growing Businesses and Startups to a 7-day guided tour to Germany’s startup hotspots in Berlin, Hamburg and the Ruhr area.

As the name suggests, the aim of this exposure journey is to provide the selected startup entrepreneurs an opportunity to display their venture and products internationally and get a grasp of current developments in the market, have a glimpse at the German startup scene and above all have the chance to meet potential customers and investors.

The exposure trip will begin on 14th October, 2017 and end on 21st October, 2017. Startup Entrepreneurs who want to participate should be active in any of the following fields:

  •       Energy/Energy solutions
  •       Internet of things/ Industry 4.0
  •       Logistics/Transport

Application Phase ended on 26th August 2017

An overwhelming number of 79 Kenyan startups have taken the chance to apply for the Exposure Trip.

Selected applicants will be invited for an interview in mid-September conducted by a jury comprising of experts from the three fields of interest. We will actively get in touch with you as soon as the selection process is over.

The Travel Itinerary

Saturday, 14th October – Monday, 16th October:     Berlin

Monday, 16th October – Wednesday 18th October: Hamburg

Wednesday, 18th October – Friday, 20th October:   Ruhr Area with participation at the Ruhr Summit.

The trip offers Kenyan startup entrepreneurs the chance to get to know the German startup scene, meet with German corporates and SMEs from the three sectors as well as to learn about how to address the German market.

Program Requirements

  • Your startup is in the ‘market testing’ phase; you must be beyond the seed stage; successful accomplishment of first investor rounds is beneficial.
  • You have developed a scalable business model with an international approach;  a focus on the German market/ German customers is an advantage.
  • Your startup is active in the fields of Energy/ Energy solutions; Internet of things/ Industry 4.0; Logistics/ transport.
  • Good command of the English language is required since the program will be conducted in English.

Three startups can qualify for the ‘Start-up! Germany’ trip. The journey is being sponsored by AHK Kenya and the Tech Entrepreneurship Initiative ’Make-IT in Africa’. This includes travel and accommodation costs. In addition, you will get support with the visa application process. Finally, preparatory meetings will make you fit for the trip.
