The Delegation of German Industry and Commerce for Eastern Africa (AHK) conducted a Vocational Orientation for high school learners in collaboration with the Goethe Institute in Kenya. The Vocational Orientation entailed a 1-day workshop where high school learners were introduced to the concept of Vocational Training as an alternative pathway to higher education. The learners were also introduced to the German Dual Training system, Dual Study and the vocational training opportunities available both locally and in Germany.
In addition, AHK organized a 3-day job-shadowing programme at local companies in various sectors. The “job shadowing” provided a platform where the learners experienced the real world of work and could develop a realistic idea of their abilities and interests.
The learners really enjoyed this experience and appreciated the opportunity. Some said it had positively influenced their perception of various fields, and their choices on fields of study and future career paths.
