1. What is TVET? 

A: TVET stands for Technical and Vocational Education and Training. TVET is concerned with the acquisition of knowledge and skills for the world of work.


2. What is dual VET? 

A: Dual VET (Dual Vocational Education and Training) is a competency based training system. The major part of training within this dual system is performed in companies that are responsible for this practical part. The in-company vocational training concentrates on teaching specialized practical skills and on providing the necessary occupational experience. The vocational school focuses on providing specialized theoretical knowledge for the relevant occupation. 

 

3. Can I study at AHK Services Eastern Africa Ltd.?

A: No. AHK Services Eastern Africa Ltd. is not a provider of technical and vocational education and training. It supports companies and training institutions by coordinating German dual VET and offering examination and Certification.

 

4. Does AHK Services Eastern Africa Ltd. offer scholarships or financial support to TVET institutions?

A: No. AHK Services Eastern Africa Ltd. does not provide financial assistance to individuals or organizations. It serves partner organizations/institutions to develop and strengthen dual vocational training systems and organize examinations and certification of these training programs.

 

5. What is AdA International?

A: AdA means Ausbildung der Ausbilder or Training of Trainers. The “Train the Trainer” course is the highest international certification of trainers in the TVET sector. The course develops both in-company trainers and vocational school trainers. Our ToT courses have been developed over a period of 60 years. The system is focusing on the practical training in the company by experienced company trainers who are not full time trainers but working in their profession for many years. The long term goal is to have a skilled labor force trained by up to date methods on up to date machines and equipment. AHK Services Eastern Africa Ltd. offers two versions of the course; Basic (5 days) and Full Version (10 days). At the end of the course there is an examination. The Examination following German standards, consist of both theory & practical parts. Quality assured DIHK-AHK certificate is given after successful completion of the training and the exam.

 

6. What is the Skills Expert Program?

A: The Skills Experts Programme is conducted by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action  in cooperation with the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK). In particular, the programme helps small and medium sized enterprises abroad to train local workers. The skills experts work closely together with DIHK to ensure that the German dual trainings system is adapted, delivered and certified in line with comparable, quality assured standards of vocational training in Kenya.

 

7. What are the services offered by AHK Services Eastern Africa Limited in TVET? 

A: AHK Services Eastern Africa Limited offers expert advice on conceptual design, set up and implementation of vocational training programs with dual system elements. Specific services include but are not limited to:

8. How can a company join the dual VET?

9. What are the benefits of Dual VET to a company and a trainee?

A: The Company will gain highly competent employees meeting the needs of the company (versus hiring externally), will improve productivity as well as quality of services and products, will save recruitment and retraining costs, will realise high return on investment in the long run.

The Trainee will gain occupational proficiency, will learn in real and state-of-the-art work environment (machinery, work processes), will learn how to identify with company and occupation, will become capable and certified to access different occupational and educational opportunities.

 

10. How can I enroll for a Training of Trainers?

A: Anyone interested in the ToT course should contact AHK Eastern Africa. The training is open for all trainers who are involved in vocational training in Kenya as well as to all human resources or management staff interested in training or developing training plans.
