Vocational Orientation Workshop: Exposing Young Scholars to the World of Work

24/08/2022

Goethe Institut Nairobi in collaboration with the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce for Eastern Africa (AHK) organized an information workshop on Vocational Training for German Class students from Starehe Boys Centre and Mother of Apostles schools.

The initiative included a one-day workshop during which the students were informed about TVET as an alternative pathway besides University Education. It included a general introduction of TVET, detailed information on the German dual training concept and its adaption to the Kenyan environment and exploring available opportunities for the trainees both in Kenya and Germany.

On the second day the students in groups according to their special career interests visited various companies which exposed them to having a feel of the world of work. The visits also opened their eyes to a realm of career possibilities that TVET has to offer.

At the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce for Eastern Africa  we are dedicated in supporting  TVET initiatives in Kenya that focus on empowering the youth through equipping them with information to propel them in making better career choices. The rate of unemployment in the country is constantly on the rise. TVET offers a solution in reducing the unemployment rate as trainees are equipped with competitive skills and knowledge that are necessary for the contemporary job market.
