Business Delegation Trip on Security Sector to Ethiopia

Public and citizen safety issues, ICT security, as well as border safety take priority in this delegation visit from Germany.

On behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWi), AHK Services Eastern Africa Limited implemented a 5-day business delegation trip to Ethiopia on the Civil Security Sector. The trip, which ran from the 7th – 11th of October, 2019, was intended for German companies interested in exploring new market opportunities, establishing new bilateral relations with the civil security sector players in Ethiopia and/or strengthening existing ones.

The delegation comprised of 6 German companies and a representative of the BMWi who had an opportunity to visit civil security facilities in Addis Ababa, flanked by senior authorities in the sector. This delegation trip was kicked off by a conference attended by 80 attendees including civil security companies, regulators and entrepreneurs in Ethiopia.

With increased population, advances in science in technology, the rise of social media use for organizing and executing mass threats, free market movement and the negative consequences of climate change changing ecosystems, governments all over the world are under intense responsibility to safeguard the safety of their people. This includes both preventative and mitigation measures to ensure either risks do not become incidents or incidents are managed well utilizing reliable technology and standards. The key importance of this delegation was to bring together industry experts from Germany with their counterparts in Addis Ababa to build fruitful relationships which lead to increased safety of the Ethiopian people.

The visiting companies for this delegation included CES (C. Ed. Schulte GmbH Zylinderschlossfabrik), Dräger Safety AG & Co KG aA, FAMS GmbH / Frequentis AG, ISN International Security Network GmbH, LTV Europe Sicherheitstechnik GmbH and Michael Thomas GmbH PES and was accompanied by Mr. Christian Pachen, sector specialist from the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy. The companies had the opportunity to hold intensive discussions with high-level Ethiopian civil security institutions, including the Ethiopian Ministry of Peace as well Addis Ababa Police Commission, the City Government of Addis Ababa Fire and Disaster Risk Management Commission, and also visit several local companies in the sector On top, the German companies had the opportunity to conduct B2B meetings with potential business partners.
